Detox Secret Weapon

After a month (or two) of decadence it’s time to say goodbye to the booze, bon voyage to the late nights and good riddance to sugar. Oh yes, it’s detox time and today I start mine.

The biggest mistake many make when embarking on a detox is not easing into it first. Going cold turkey on sugar for instance can spike insulin levels, drag energy levels way down and make you crave it all that much more. So my first detox tip is: Preparation.

Chia: The New Super-Seed

Chia seeds

Forget flax seeds, Chia (known as the ancient seed of strength) is the new super-seed of choice. These powerful seeds not only nourish our beautiful bodies with more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon but are also high in protein and minerals: iron, calcium, niacin, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus. Low fat & Weightloss

Further to Sarah’s comment on ‘Low Fat’ foods (or “non-foods” as I prefer to call them), these do not support weight loss.  On the contrary, foods that have been processed and stripped of their fat can actually encourage the body to produce more fat.  It’s a subject that has been completely confused and abused.  There’s lots we need to relearn about fats, but to get you started, here’s a few simple tips to keep in mind to kick start your weight loss and improve your overall health also:* Incorporate cold-pressed coconut oil in your diet daily
* Choose butter (ideally organic and ‘cultured’) over olive oil (less conducive to fat production)
* Use extra virgin olive oil or avocado in your salad, not both
* Limit or avoid nuts while you’re trying to drop kilos
* Only ever cook with (heat) butter, ghee or coconut oil
* Eat raw fats like organic egg yolk, for their lipase content (the fat-digesting enzyme)

Is low fat food making you fat?

Is low fat food making you fat?

My silly mistake in years past was choosing nasty food products labeled ‘Diet’, ‘Low Fat’, ‘Lite’, ‘Sugar Free’. These products are NOT healthy – they will NOT make you lose weight. In fact, if the ingredients list reads like the back of a Crayola pencil box (i.e Color E-42PS, G42-u) can you really call it a ‘food’?
