Well it was a long weekend of rehearsing and getting ready for the Telethon fashion shows but it was worth it! The 12-hour telethon for earthquake-hit Christchurch raised more than $2.5 million on Sunday! The telethon, exactly three months after February’s devastating earthquake, was broadcast by Maori Television from studios in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland from 9am to 9pm with live crosses to centres in London, Los Angeles and Sydney.
On Tuesday a second huge earthquake struck the Canterbury region devastating the homes and lives of many New Zealander’s. New Zealand Prime Minister John Key stated yesterday that this “may well be New Zealand’s darkest day”.
