Doing the weekly grocery shop around Easter is always a very good test of will power! As I walked into the supermarket yesterday, bombarded with chocolate Easter eggs and being (what some people would term) a chocoholic I dig deep, very deep resisting the temptation to buy the whole display!
BUT after speaking to Emma I have been made to feel better about my need for chocolate. Apparently it is much better to eat dark chocolate for dessert than it is ice cream or other such things because of the high antioxidant component in Cocoa. More on this in Emma’s blog post.
Here are 5 more GREAT health reasons to eat dark chocolate
1. Live Longer
Recent research showed that people who consume moderate amounts of chocolate live almost one year more than those who do not eat chocolate.
2. Ease PMS
Chocolate contains iron & magnesium proven to ease PMS (pre-menstrual symptoms). Husbands you may want to stock up the fridge before it’s ‘that time of the month’!
3. Prevent Heart Disease
Chocolate may help fight heart disease. It also contains chemicals called flavinoids, which thin the blood, helping to prevent clotting.
4. Brightens Your Mood
Chocolate contains tryptophan, a chemical in the brain that is used to produce serotonin that stimulate the release of endorphins giving you those HAPPY feelings.
5. Protect Your Smile
The bitterest chemical found in chocolate, theobromine, an alkaloid similar to caffeine, was found to fight off tooth decay, being more efficient than the fluoride.
