Feeling guilty about the weekends over indulgence? Buy a cabbage.
An issue (amongst many) with consuming too much alcohol is that it interferes with your body’s digestive system. Alcohol destroys a significant amount of good bacteria in the gut and can inhibit your body’s ability to absorb essential vitamins and minerals. A simple health solution would be to avoid alcohol altogether, however for those who choose the less healthier path I have a greener solution – Cabbage water.
Make no illusions Cabbage water tastes as appealing as it sounds but this green juice works wonders in your body. Cabbage is high in glutamine, an amino acid that promotes healthy digestion in the body. The juice of fresh raw cabbage has been proven to heal stomach ulcers and is rich in iron, iodine, calcium, potassium, sulfur, phosphorus. It also contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E, K and folic acid. Cabbage water is gentle and cleansing on the digestive system and will help detoxify your body.
Start with one glass of Cabbage water in the morning on an empty stomach then gradually increase to twice a day. It has a strong bitter taste so add lemon and a pinch of sea salt to make it bearable. Try to find organic red cabbages for your cabbage water. The vitamin C content of red cabbage is 6-8 times higher than that of the green cabbage. Red cabbage contain anthocyanin (red pigment/color) is an antioxidant that can help protect brain cells.
Cabbage water recipe:
Pack a glass jar with shredded cabbage, either red or green, with a pinch of sea salt and cover it with water. Cover the jar with an airlock and let it stand overnight. The next day, pour through a filter to hold back cabbage and pour out. Add sea salt and lemon to taste as desired.

Hi. I have decided to try to fast on a 5/2 ratio (if i can,if not, at least one day a week ) today ,my first day, I boiled a green cabbage and intend the water from this to be my vitamin content. I did add a couple of oxo chicken stock cubes to the water during boiling and a pinch of white pepper when consuming. I find the taste quite palatable, not at all unpleasant. I note you instruct just soaking the cabbage. Will my method be as beneficial or not. I cant imagine a cold solution will be manageable in my effort. Thankyou .
Yes, boiling the cabbage will also be beneficial. A pinch of sea salt in the boiling water will also help extract more of the minerals from the cabbage. Hope that helps.
Why not eat the cabbage? Shred it and make a kind of coleslaw. Or does the overnight soak release more nutrients?
